In the "2022 World New Energy Vehicle Conference", Mr. Meng Park, Chairman of Qualcomm China, attended the conference and shared his views on the development of the new energy vehicle industry and the layout of Qualcomm's in-vehicle track.

Auto manufacturers are becoming technology companies
 
Hello, leaders, industry partners, colleagues, and friends from the media, I am Qualcomm's Mr. Peng. I am very pleased to participate in this year's World New Energy Vehicle Conference and discuss with you how to better promote cooperation and innovation, jointly build an intelligent ecology and embrace new opportunities for smart connected vehicles.
 
In recent years, along with the development of cutting-edge technologies, important trends have emerged in many industries, such as digital transformation is happening in almost all industries, everything is connected to the cloud in real time, AI is scaling up at the edge, the integration of physical and virtual space, and so on.
 
In the automotive sector, we see that car manufacturers are becoming technology companies, cars are gradually connecting to the cloud, assisted driving is also starting to show a trend of scale development, and cars empowered by intelligent network connection technology are evolving from a travel tool to an intelligent terminal on wheels. The emergence of these key trends cannot be separated from the promotion of important technologies such as 5G, AI and cloud computing. With the rapid development of digital transformation in various industries, the demand for leading technologies will be further expanded.

Qualcomm's automotive business order value has exceeded US$19 billion
 
For Qualcomm, we are at the crossroads of key industry trends. With deep expertise in AI, imaging, graphics, processing and connectivity, we have created a "unified technology roadmap" that delivers device side AI, high performance low power systems and all wireless connectivity components to efficiently support virtually all types of connected devices. These devices cover all aspects of people's work and life, from wireless Bluetooth headsets, to smart XR devices, to the topic we are discussing today - Smart Connected Cars.
 
 
Qualcomm has been continuously investing in the automotive industry for more than 20 years, creating many first-of-its-kind technologies and solutions that "define the future", supporting the innovation of eco-partners and driving the development of automotive technology. 20 years ago, Qualcomm entered the automotive industry by providing 2G connectivity for cars; seven years ago, Qualcomm started the research and development of smart Last year, the Snapdragon cockpit chip's process technology, for the first time, caught up with flagship cell phones. In addition to the well-known Snapdragon cockpit platform, Qualcomm also has deep accumulation in Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, precise positioning, security and other basic technologies for in-vehicle applications, working together with industrial partners to create a new ecology for the automotive industry.

Snapdragon cockpit platform has supported more than 50 Chinese models
 
The launch of Snapdragon Digital Chassis is an example of how we are building an intelligent ecosystem for the industry through open cooperation. Snapdragon Digital Chassis is the collective name for the many automotive platforms and solutions launched by Qualcomm, and is a set of open, scalable and upgradable solutions we have built specifically for the automotive industry to meet the design needs of our partners' multi-level and multi-generational models.
 
 
The Snapdragon Digital Chassis incorporates Qualcomm's extensive portfolio of products and technologies in the automotive sector, covering four major areas: digital cockpit, in-vehicle connectivity and C-V2X, ADAS and autonomous driving, and vehicle-to-cloud. As an innovator in wireless technology, Qualcomm's strengths lie in wireless connectivity and mobile computing. You will find that in-vehicle connectivity and C-V2X, as well as vehicle-to-cloud, focus on vehicle connectivity; digital cockpit, ADAS and autonomous driving bring into play more of our fundamental technology expertise in computing.
 
In the past two years, the smart cabin is in a period of rapid development, with diverse technologies and applications expanding the boundaries of the "smart cabin" and making the functions and experiences carried by the cabin richer and more immersive. We believe that the always-connected digital cockpit with powerful infotainment, real-time navigation and extended functionality will become the core of the future driving experience. Over the past decade, we have been refreshing the "hard power" of the automotive cockpit through multiple generations of Snapdragon cockpit platforms, helping automotive partners create a top-notch cockpit experience, explore more cockpit features and scenarios, and lay the foundation for the evolution of smart connected cars.
 
 
 

 
Snapdragon cockpit platform is favored by Chinese partners and recognized by consumers. Over the past two years, the familiar third-generation Snapdragon cockpit platform has become the platform of choice for many manufacturers to create a differentiated in-car experience. Our fourth-generation cockpit products, announced last year, will also soon be on the ground and available to consumers. Since 2020, the Snapdragon Cockpit platform has supported the launch of more than 50 models from Chinese automotive brands, including Great Wall, Xiaopeng, Azera, Ideal and many other leading brands.
 
From Qualcomm's perspective, wireless connectivity and mobile computing technologies, represented by 5G and AI, are transforming the automotive industry. 5G, as the next-generation network connectivity architecture, will help the automotive industry move forward. We are also seeing automakers embrace 5G at a faster pace, launching cars with 5G connectivity. the convergence of 5G, AI and other technologies will impact every aspect of the automotive industry, including support for more advanced car manufacturing technologies, safer intelligent transportation systems, more personalised in-car interactive experiences, new ways to sell and upgrade car features, and more.
 
Based on Qualcomm's deep expertise in connectivity technologies, the Snapdragon Automotive Intelligence Platform provides comprehensive automotive connectivity technology support to help automakers build robust LTE and 5G networking services, C-V2X, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and advanced location capabilities to support secure connectivity between the car and the cloud, other vehicles and the surrounding environment for a safer, more immersive driving experience. Currently, the Snapdragon Automotive Smart Connect platform has supported many Chinese automotive brands to be the first to release smart connected cars that support 5G technology.

This is the first year of SnapdragonRide on board
 
Currently, the industry is evolving into the smart driving era, making the demand for high-performance and energy-efficient chips for cars climb. In the field of smart driving, Qualcomm has been investing for many years, and in 2020 Qualcomm first released the SnapdragonRide platform, an advanced and scalable open autonomous driving solution, which is oriented to a variety of smart driving scenarios and provides different levels of computing power, covering L1/L2 level vehicle active safety, to L2+ level driver assistance scenarios, and then to L4+ level of fully automated driving systems.
 
In addition to targeting a wide range of smart driving scenarios, the SnapdragonRide platform brings high-performance, low-power computing, as well as connectivity and cloud services. It includes a powerful and efficient integrated SoC and a scalable, rich software platform that supports automakers and partners for different tiers and generations of vehicles, maximizing the resources provided by the platform and eliminating duplication of development efforts. The comprehensive SnapdragonRide platform creates a one-stop platform that provides industry-leading solutions, a fully integrated set of tools and systems that support active learning and continuous data collection.
 
 
Since its launch in 2020, SnapdragonRide has seen strong growth and is being adopted by automakers and Tier 1 suppliers worldwide to develop next-generation models. This is also the first year that SnapdragonRide will be on board. And just two days ago at the Chengdu Auto Show, China's first model with the SnapdragonRide platform, the Great Wall Wei Mokka DHT-PHEV LIDAR Edition, was heavily unveiled, marking the official commercial landing of SnapdragonRide in China. In addition, this new model is equipped with the CarSmart platform and Cockpit platform in the Snapdragon Digital Chassis, and is expected to be delivered this year to meet consumers.
 
 
Overseas, last November, we announced the expansion of our long-term partnership with BMW Group to bring the latest cutting-edge driver assistance technologies with the SnapdragonRide platform to BMW Group's next-generation ADAS and autonomous driving platform, and to provide BMW with a computer vision software stack, vision SoC and ADAS central computing controller. In January this year, GM launched its self-driving assistance system developed on the SnapdragonRide platform. In May this year, CARIAD, a software company of Volkswagen Group, also selected the SnapdragonRide platform for the development of its software platform.
