At the World AI Conference 2022, Qualcomm President and CEO Simon Ann's keynote speech pointed directly to the hottest field of the moment, the metaverse.

"How the metaverse will impact and change industries and people's lives is only the tip of the iceberg in terms of what we currently understand about it." Ammon, the metaverse will become a completely open, fully functional and innovative economy where artists, designers, musicians and everyone else can communicate with their audiences in a whole new way. The metaverse holds amazing opportunities that will drive global innovation and economic growth.

Since Mr. Ammon's speech was really great, Tide Electric Smart Car decided to edit it slightly and serve it in its original taste. The following is the full text of the speech.

Hello, I'm Qualcomm's President and CEO, Mr. Ammon. It's an honour to join the World AI Conference once again to discuss a topic that excites me twice as much - the meta-universe.

Simply put, the metaverse is the future of the Internet, or the spatial Internet, which exists in a multi-dimensional virtual world. The metaverse will usher in a new era of highly immersive, customizable digital experiences that will blur the boundaries between the physical and digital worlds and spawn exciting new use cases for consumers and businesses alike.

Retail businesses will be able to create new spaces and customer experiences that promote their brands and products and drive consumer loyalty to new heights. The digital twin is a virtual mapping of the real world with which users can interact. Digital twins will become increasingly pervasive in the metaverse, transforming every aspect of the world, from product development, to healthcare treatments and outcomes, to monitoring the status and performance of commercial aircraft, for example.

The metaverse will become a completely open, fully functional, and innovative economy where artists, designers, musicians, and everyone else can communicate with their audiences in new ways. The metaverse holds amazing opportunities that will drive global innovation and economic growth. What we currently understand about how the metaverse will impact and change industries and people's lives is just the tip of the iceberg.

XR extended reality devices, including augmented reality, virtual reality and mixed reality devices, will be the primary entry point to the metaverse for consumers. Smartphones and mobile PCs will also be extended to this virtual world, and terminals such as smartwatches, earbuds, and smart home hubs will become the physical links to the metaverse. As the number of net-connected terminals continues to grow and the interconnection of everything is gradually realized, the data generated by them will help build the meta-universe. As the meta-universe evolves, new categories and forms of terminals will continue to emerge, providing customized and optimized experiences for consumers and enterprises.

Edge-side innovation and advanced technologies are critical to the development of the metaverse. High-rate, low-latency 5G and Wi-Fi connectivity, high-performance, energy-efficient processing, and collaborative cloud-side AI will help realize the metaverse. Smartphones' rich spatial audio technology, graphics processing technology and camera capabilities are essential to create a truly immersive experience.

Infrastructure developments will also play an important role, such as virtualized open architecture, 5G private networks, wireless fiber and network access points. High-performance, low-latency 5G connectivity is integral to enabling experiences such as borderless XR. 5G connectivity enables separated processing and rendering between devices and the cloud. 5G and Wi-Fi7 will provide capacity guarantees for graphics-rich, bandwidth-intensive experiences in the metaverse. Qualcomm's ability to drive innovation in these technologies for multiple categories of devices is based on our leadership in mobile connectivity, networked processing and intelligence.

AI is critical to shaping the user experience, as the metaverse needs to learn and adapt to changing environments and user preferences. Computational photography and computer vision technologies will support depth perception, such as hand, eye and location tracking, as well as features such as contextual understanding and perception. To improve the accuracy of user avatars and enhance the experience of the users themselves and other participants, AI will be applied to the analysis of scan information and images to create highly realistic avatars. AI will also drive the development of perception algorithms, 3D rendering and reconstruction techniques to build stunningly realistic environments. Natural language processing will support machines and terminals to understand text and speech and act accordingly. These are just a few examples of AI's importance to the metaverse.

The metaverse requires massive amounts of data, and it is clearly not feasible to do all the data processing in the cloud. ai processing power needs to be extended to the edge side, where context-rich data is generated and distributed intelligence is born. 5G will support near real-time sharing of context-rich data generated at the edge to other terminals and the cloud, enabling new applications, services, environments and experiences in the metaverse.

Endpoint AI offers several important advantages. Endpoint-side AI enhances security and protects privacy, and sensitive data can be stored on the endpoint without having to be sent to the cloud. It can detect malware and suspicious behavior, which is critical for large-scale shared environments. End-side AI will enable new disruptive technologies such as federation learning. It will also enable more efficient use of limited network resources and bandwidth.

Qualcomm is a global leader in device intelligence. It is the result of more than a decade of AI research and product development by the company. Qualcomm has also invested in several high-potential cutting-edge AI technology startups, including Chinese startups, to drive the development of AI.

To accelerate the move to the meta-universe and drive innovation, Qualcomm has introduced a number of solutions and undertaken projects. The Snapdragon XR platform is specifically designed to meet the needs and requirements of the Internet in space. The Snapdragon XR platform combines industry-leading connectivity and AI performance with rich spatial audio, graphics processing and imaging capabilities to help create truly immersive experiences. More than 50 commercial XR devices using the Snapdragon XR platform have been released, including products from Chinese device manufacturers.

Based on the Snapdragon XR platform, we have created AR and VR reference designs to help simplify the development of wireless AR and VR devices. Based on SnapdragonSpaces, we provide developers with the technology and tools they need to help build an open ecosystem and create immersive XR experiences. Leading Chinese smartphone and XR hardware manufacturers, including Lenovo, Motorola, OPPO and Xiaomi, are supporting SnapdragonSpaces in 2022 as the first partners, with Motorola being the first to release a commercially available smartphone with SnapdragonSpaces support.

In addition, the Qualcomm AI software stack provides device manufacturers and developers with a comprehensive, unified AI solution that supports them to develop features and applications and then also migrate the same models to different categories and tiers of devices. We have also established the $100 million Snapdragon Meta Universe Fund to invest in developers and companies building unique immersive XR experiences and core technologies related to AR and AI. Qualcomm, and Snapdragon, have become the key to the meta-universe.

The metaverse brings exciting opportunities with unlimited imagination. Qualcomm is committed to providing the most comprehensive and complete technologies and solutions for the Chinese and global ecosystem, enabling a new era of connected devices and working with partners to help realise the full potential of the metaverse. I am pleased to participate in today's event and thank you again for the invitation to the conference.
