Apple XR device is absent, is it storage or momentum building?
Time: Sep 13, 2022Views:
The two-and-a-half-hour-long autumn conference, Apple released six new products such as cell phones, headphones and watches, but there was no trace of XR device.
This is consistent with the previous prediction of Tide Electric Intelligence: Apple XR will be launched next year at the earliest.
A month before that, new news about Apple's XR device was flying around: Apple's XR device might be called "RealityOne" or "RealityPro", Apple is applying for several "Reality" trademarks for its headset device, and Apple is applying for a number of "Reality" trademarks for its headset device. "Reality" trademark, the official website of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office released more Apple XR technology patents, "poached" from Samsung's chief WebXR expert AdaRose Cannon... ...
Meta CEO Zuckerberg insists that VR is the future, while Apple thinks it's AR. It's confusing that Apple, the main driver of the hardware platform, is expected to launch an AR-enabled VR product next year.
While Apple now has hundreds of employees actively building two separate hardware platforms that will run a mobile operating system called realityOS. The first platform is a headset, and the second is smart glasses.
But risk-taking has never been Apple's choice. For the battle that is not sure, Apple will not fight.
As early as 2018, the media disclosed that the lack of computing power has become a problem in the development of Apple's XR headset, and the industry speculated otherwise that the heat dissipation problems associated with the processor's computing power caused a delay in the release of XR hardware this year; as a close-fitting wearable device, industrial design requirements have also become a problem that Apple needs to solve, and the industry revealed that Apple has been testing the best industrial design solutions.
It now appears that Apple's first MR headset is expected to ship next year, essentially VR hardware primarily for AR support, although it also supports VR functionality.
It has previously been reported that Apple's killer app for this platform will be a digital avatar-based virtual conference. This hardware will come with two 8K displays, one for each eye, as powerful as a personal computer.
But the price is naturally not expensive, it will be above $2000.
Apple's AR glasses will be equipped with sensors for mapping 3D space and monitoring the user's identity, gaze focus and other factors. Spatial audio will help create the illusion that virtual objects exist in physical space.
The glasses will look much like regular glasses and will support the use of prescription lenses and could ship in 2025. Little is known about the final configuration of this eyewear product, and Apple may not have finalized the specifications yet.
The best-case scenario for Apple is to launch AR glasses within three years, when there will be thousands of compelling apps running on them. Truly compelling apps take a lot of time to develop, and companies need years of testing, development, training and integration. As a stopgap measure, AppleReality will provide Apple with the time it needs.
After personal computers and smartphones, Apple has the opportunity to lead a third massive industry change with AR glasses.
