Cook throws cold water on the meta-universe, thinks AR is the future
Time: Oct 12, 2022Views:
In an interview with Dutch media outlet Bright, Apple CEO Tim Cook said, "I've always thought it's important to get people to really understand something. I'm really not sure the average person can tell you what the metaverse is."
Many tech giants are currently working to develop software and hardware that will allow people to spend a lot of time and money in the metaverse. Mark Zuckerberg and his Meta company have invested heavily in the metaverse concept, while many companies, including Microsoft and Disney, have also developed metaverse plans.
Apple is developing an AR/VR headset that is expected to be available in 2023, according to Bloomberg. Cook said in an interview with Bright that the future of AR augmented reality technology will go far beyond the current level of application.
During a trip to Europe in late September this year, Cook said, "I think AR augmented reality is a far-reaching technology that will affect everything. Imagine, all of a sudden, we can use AR to teach, use it to demonstrate things. AR can also be used in medicine and other fields. Like I just said, one day in the future we'll look back and be surprised that we ever lived without AR."
Cook said AR could eventually be like the Internet: ubiquitous and indispensable.
