Also a member of the fruit chain, Sun Micro Optics (02382.HK) has a much sadder cell phone lens business than Dailigang.
On October 11 Suntech announced on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange that the company shipped 95.56 million cell phone lenses in September, down 27.9% year-on-year.
A domestic optical listed company executives, camera supply chain experts Yang Xianqi (a pseudonym) told Tide Electric Intelligence, cell phone market environment is cold, even if Apple's iPhone 14 sales may not be as expected, which is limited to Sunyu cell phone lens shipments pull power.
On the contrary, the other lens supply leader, Dali Light, since June this year, revenue has been maintained year-on-year growth, including in September to 5.1 billion NT (about RMB 1.15 billion) to set a new high of nearly 22 months, a year-on-year growth of 22.31%.
Tide Power Intelligence learned from the supply chain that Apple's 48-megapixel main camera, which was first introduced in the iPhone 14 Pro model, is still the main supplier of the lens, which accounts for half of the total, while Suntech only got 30% of the share.
Yang Xianqi said, "This shows that in the choice of high-end lens suppliers, Apple now still trusts Daligraph more, and Sunyu still needs more time and project integration to deepen the partnership with Apple."
On October 12, Sun Microelectronics rose 0.07% to HK$73.7. It once fell 4.77% to HK$70.3 during the session, hitting a new low in mid-June 2019.
According to statistical analysis by Tide Electric Intelligence, the serious inward roll of the Android cell phone camp in the high-end market is still suppressed by Apple and Samsung, although major brands are making new attempts with folding screen phones, trying to change lanes to overtake Apple, but folding screen phones account for a very limited proportion of the total number of smartphones, less than 1%. This continues to take the high-end route in recent years, the customer base to Android-based Sunyu, cell phone lens shipments also have a greater impact.
In comparison, Sunyu in the cell phone camera module shipments encountered trouble seems to be greater, its market dominance by the challenge of Quyi.
Suntech's announcement showed that its cell phone camera module shipments in September were 36.933 million units, down 31.2% year-on-year. Its camera module shipments in July and August were 36,793,000 and 38,717,000 respectively, with sales declining by more than 30% year-on-year in all three months of the third quarter.
It is worth noting that Suntech's July cell phone camera module shipments were overtaken by Quti with 37.464 million units. In the third quarter, Sunwoo and Quti's cell phone camera module shipments were very close, at 112 million and 107 million respectively.
According to Kobayashi, an industry chain source very close to Sunwoo, the reason for Sunwoo's poor shipment performance in the third quarter had a great deal to do with end-brand customers actively clearing inventory.
But Suntech's car business ushered in a positive. The company shipped 7.67 million lenses in September, the highest single month this year, with year-on-year growth rising to 53.2%. Suntech said, mainly because of the same period last year by the impact of shortages of key components in the automotive supply chain shipments of a low base.
