MetaQuestPro, introduced by Mark Zuckerberg at MetaConnect 2022, is the first device to feature the new flagship first-generation Snapdragon® XR2+ platform.

On October 11, Qualcomm Technologies unveiled the latest first-generation Snapdragon XR2+ platform to power next-generation mixed reality (MR) and virtual reality (VR) devices with improved power and thermal performance, supporting OEMs to create richer metaverse experiences in thinner and lighter device form factors.

New Platform Kit: The new platform configuration is capable of supporting better cooling and delivering significant performance improvements, with the platform achieving a 50% increase in endurance performance and a 30%1 increase in cooling performance. This enables the platform to support more concurrent multimedia processing and perception technologies to enable full-sensory interactions, such as creating lifelike expressions in the metaverse, without sacrificing the form factor of the device.

Vivid MR experience: The Snapdragon XR2+ platform introduces a new image processing pipeline that enables sub-10ms latency to open up a superior full-color video see-through MR experience. The platform supports parallel perception technologies including head, gesture and grip tracking, 3D reconstruction, and low latency video see-through. Seven parallel cameras support the integration of real and virtual worlds into an all-encompassing MR experience through video perspective, precise motion tracking, and automatic indoor map building.

Meta Quest Pro is the fourth XR device that Meta and Qualcomm have collaborated on. It is reported that several OEMs have planned to launch commercial devices equipped with Snapdragon XR2+.
