Goodway inverters recalled by Australian regulator, why do Chinese companies step out of line so often overseas?

As the saying goes, good things don't go unnoticed, but bad things spread a thousand miles.

Recently, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) announced that Goodway's MS-30 model solar inverters sold in Australia are a safety hazard, requiring the company to recall them.

This is not an isolated case.

Last year, the inverters of Deye and Grawatt's inverters were counterfeited and recalled in Germany and Australia.

Whether it is the lack of parts to reduce costs, or to the relevant review of the strength of the report to take a chance, "counterfeiting fiasco", "safety hazards fiasco" can be described as a heavy blow to the enterprise. The stock price dive, followed by a sharp drop in quarterly shipments, may even reduce the international market's trust in China's energy storage brands.

Overseas production standards and requirements for Chinese inverter products are already very strict, and Chinese companies should follow business rules more strictly and cautiously there, not ignoring certain small rules and production specifications for parts and components, and producing and operating in good faith.

Goodway: Safety of inverters in Australia questioned

The inverters recalled include GW5000-MS-30, GW6000-MS-30, GW8500-MS-30, and GW10K-MS-30. The reason for the recall is that the AC plugs supplied with the inverters do not comply with the requirements of the relevant electrical safety standards and can be unplugged without the use of a tool, posing a major safety hazard.

Australia is one of Goodway's key overseas markets, and this recall will likely affect its shipments in the first quarter of 2024.

Upon request, Goodway has also published the recall information and rectification plan on the Australian company's official website. The company said it is actively working to resolve the safety issues related to the AC plugs on the MS G3 inverters.

DEYE: German micro inverter products exposed to "lack of pounds"

In July 2023, a German review blogger dismantled a machine and found that one of DEYE's microinverters lacked an internal relay, which was inconsistent with its statement in the VDE4105 certification.

Germany is the main exporting country for DEYE's micro inverters, and this "relay" incident directly led to a rapid decrease in shipments in the third quarter.

In the first three quarters of 2023, DEYE shipped 351,000 units of energy storage inverters, an 86% increase in energy storage inverter shipments. However, 51,000 units were shipped in a single quarter in the third quarter, down 53% year-on-year and 71% sequentially.

The company immediately after the incident on the return of micro inverters to write off, and free to provide external relay program to the German and Austrian end-customers who have installed DEI micro inverter products, the performance of the impact is not small.

Growatt: multiple recalls requested in Australia

On November 17, 2023, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) issued a product safety recall notice for household solar inverters supplied by Growatt New Energy Australia Pty Ltd, because the product's exposed spare port, if improperly installed, could expose the user to live and dangerous voltages during operation.

And on September 17, 2021, another batch of products from Growatt was subject to a recall because they did not meet electrical safety standards and "present a risk of connector fire, which could result in personal injury or death and/or property damage."

Growatt shipped 930,500 PV inverters in 2022, is the world's first household PV inverter shipments, with a market share of 12.4%, while PV inverter shipments ranked fourth in the world, followed by Huawei, Sunny Power, Jinlang Technology, is considered a small giant PV inverter companies.

The company was founded in 2011, headquartered in Shenzhen, China, in May 2023 through the Hong Kong Stock Exchange hearing, in September of the same year broke the news that the Blackstone Group is considering the acquisition of Grawatt.
